the old men do not pose with pride
less so the old black men

with their mended clothing
their cardboard price signs
their colourful textiles
their dirty iron eyes
and their foreign hats
framing the contours of their heads

the ceramics the shade of skin
are shattered and buried

the new blacks who pose
with fear of the old whites

os velhos não posam com orgulho
menos os velhos pretos

com suas vestes preservadas
suas tabuletas de preço
seus tecidos coloridos
seus olhos sujos de ferro
com chapéus expatriados
dando contorno à cabeça

da cor da pele as cerâmicas
se espatifam se enterram

os novos pretos que posam
com medo dos brancos velhos
