The Lost - Dante's Inferno Canto I, lines 1-3

By Dante

Simon Barraclough and I were looking at a variety of translations of Dante's "Inferno". The sight of all these different translations and the minute differences between them seemed to capture something of the immense futility and the joy of translation. I remixed some of the lines into a new poem, in an order that I hoped would highlight this. This poem has previously been published in The Shuffle Anthology and more recently in Adventures in Form (Penned in the Margins) < http://www.pennedinthemargins.co.uk/index.php/2012/02/adventures-in-form/>.
