On the Rim of Abu-Tor

By Dvora Amir

The poems presented here in translation are from Documentary Poems, a collection in which the poet relates to her immediate environment and daily life: reminiscences from childhood in divided pre-1967 Jerusalem, memories of lost family members, her travels and poetry reading, and above all, life in a country haunted by terror and the persistent presence of the Occupation. She regards her poems as personal rather than political, offering insights into life in Israel, ‘between tragedy and dark hope’.
