Vénus Khoury-Ghata


Vénus Khoury-Ghatais a Lebanese poet and novelist who has lived in France for the past thirty years. She is the author of sixteen collections of poems, including Quelle est la nuit parmi les nuits (Mercurede France, 2004) and La Compassion des pierres, (La Difféérence, 2001) and of as many novels, including La Maison des orties (Actes Sud, 2005) and Une maison au bord des larmes, translated by Marilyn Hacker as A House at the Edge of Tears (Graywolf Press, 2005). Two collections of her poems, translated by Marilyn Hacker, have appeared in the United States: She Says (Graywolf Press, 2003) and Here There Was Once a Country (Oberlin College Press, 2001).Other poems of hers, in Marilyn Hacker’s translation, have appeared in the United Kingdom in Poetry London, PN Review, Ambit and Banipal.
