Nishihara Katsumasa is a specialist in American poetry on the faculty of Yokohama's Kanto Gakuin University. 

A translator of Wallace Stevens,  W.C. Williams,  Emily Dickinson, W.D. Snodgrass and many others, his books include Light Verse in America

With William I. Elliott he has translated the selected poems of Japanese poets Kudo Naoko, Kurahara Shinjiro, Tanikawa Shuntaro, Mado Michio, Sakata Hiroo and Tsuji Yukio.
