Carl Zuckmayer

Poet

CARL ZUCKMAYER (1896–1977) was an originally German writer and playwright, whose early successes included the film adaptation Der blaue Engel and winning the Georg Büchner Prize in 1929. After fleeing the Nazis he spent the war years in the USA where he wrote reports for the OSS and, postwar, for the War Department. He continued to write plays and screenplays until his death in 1977.
