Bilyana Kourtasheva (1973) is a University of Sofia graduate in Bulgarian Language and Literature with a second speciality in English Language and Literature. She is an assistant professor in theory of literature at the New Bulgarian University (NBU) in Sofia. 

She was one of the founders and editors of the independent literary magazine Vitamin B (1996-98). At present she is editor-in-chief of Sledva Magazine for University Culture published by NBU. She translates from and into English and from Serbian. She co-translated (with K. Filipova and E. Pancheva) the book KINO: The poetry of Nikola Vaptsarov. (Middlesbrough: Smokestack Books, 2007.)
