Antjie Krog was born on a farm in the Orange Free State, South Africa in 1952. She lives in Cape Town where she is a Professor Extraordinary at the University of the Western Cape. Writing in Afrikaans as well as English, she has won every major South African literary prize. She has also received the Sunday Times Alan Paton Award and was honoured by the Hiroshima Peace Foundation. She has published eleven collections of poems – most recently Body Bereft (2006) – as well as translations and non-fiction, most notably Country of My Skull, an account of the hearings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
